Forward Scotland Development programme leader Sandra Renicks, with over 10 years in local economic development, was critical of the culture of 'sustainable' initiaitives devised by government. She said "These initiatives are all too often fundamentally flawed as a result of their failure to connect with communities. The top down approach will not provide the 21st century solutions we need."

Stonehouse Development Trust secures Viridor funding

Cash for project
Forward Scotland is delighted to announce the first grant award through Viridor Credits Scotland to a community organisation in Lanarkshire.  Stonehouse Development Trust were awared £30,000 to transform an area in the centre of the town into an space where the community can relax and interact.

Viridor Credits Scotland celebrates its first million in East Lothian

A warm evening in Dunbar saw nearly 100 community activists meet to celebrate the spending of £1million of landfill communities funding in East Lothian. Viridor Credits Scotland, managed by Forward Scotland, has been operating for nearly 10 years and has funded a number of high profile local projects including the John Muir Birthplace, The Scottish Seabird Centre and the Hallhill Healthy Living Centre as well as dozens of equally valuable local improvements led by local people.

Forward Scotland presented at the Royal Geographic Society international conference in London on the 27th of August.  We continue to challenge economic growth and its measure, GDP as being the best measure of societys progress in the 21st century. We propose a qualitative approach of self reported well-being that takes account of social, economic and environmental experiences to determine society's progress.
