Grants to community groups

We're pleased to announce a total of over £56,000 was offered to three community projects through the Viridor Credits Scotland grant programme in early December 2008. The grant funds are associated with the landfill operations at Oxwell Mains, Dunbar, and Rigmuir, East Kilbride.

Demand Responsive Transport - leading the way

Forward Scotland is speaking at a Demand Responsive Transport event at the Sheraton in Edinburgh on the 19th November 2008.

We have worked with the Angus Transport Forum on its highly successful DRT project where it explored the potential that awaits to be unlocked by offering communities greater choices and opportunities to access better public transport. The key to community DRT is that it does not seek to supplant public transport provision but compliments and augments provision.

Champions for Sustainable Communities

Forward Scotland is currently developing and looking for partners for Champions for Sustainable Communities. Originally launched in 2008 this is an award scheme that recognises the achievements of individuals across society who have lead the way in community development with the highest regard for sustainable development principles.

Sustainable Communities: more than just the environment

Forward Scotland Development programme leader Sandra Renicks, with over 10 years in local economic development, was critical of the culture of 'sustainable' initiaitives devised by government. She said "These initiatives are all too often fundamentally flawed as a result of their failure to connect with communities. The top down approach will not provide the 21st century solutions we need."

Stonehouse Development Trust secures Viridor funding

Forward Scotland is delighted to announce the first grant award through Viridor Credits Scotland to a community organisation in Lanarkshire. Stonehouse Development Trust were awared £30,000 to transform an area in the centre of the town into an space where the community can relax and interact.
