We're pleased to announce a total of over £56,000 was offered to three
community projects through the Viridor Credits Scotland grant programme
in early December 2008. The grant funds are associated with the
landfill operations at Oxwell Mains, Dunbar, and Rigmuir, East Kilbride.
In East Lothian Saltoun Commmunity Association received an offer of £5,384 to replace the old toilet windows and also the patio doors in the village hall. Although well used by a range of groups in the village, the hall was starting to suffer with water entering where there was a poor fit. As well as making the hall more comfortable, the running costs should also be reduced meaning that more use can be made of the facility. The Spartans Community Football Academy are opening a new £3.2m football academy in the Granton area of Edinburgh. The academy aims to provide a community-owned and managed facility providing outdoor and indoor sports pitches where children can access professional football training alongside academic education support. Viridor Credits Scotland offered a grant of £21,458 to purchase goals, nets, team shelters and other equipment for use in the academy. In South Lanarkshire an offer of £30,000 was made to enable full kitchen facilities to be fitted in a new community centre. As well as providing welcome catering at events in the hall, the kitchen also enables a community cafe to be provided whenever the hall is open, giving an element of income generation that will support future maintenance and running costs. |
