Two projects supported by Forward Scotland have been awarded grants after being successful in the finals of the People’s Millions contest on STV and Borders Television.

STV regional finalists The Barony 'A' Frame Trust in Ayrshire have been awarded £80,000 after successfully promoting The Pitheid Patter project. The project will allow the Barony ‘A’ Frame Trust to  provide interpretative materials, signage and a heritage garden at the site of the Barony 'A' Frame which was retained and listed after the Barony pit closed in 1989.

The project will also recruit and train volunteer heritage guides. This is part of phase two of an oral history project about the lives of the miners who worked at the pit.

The Barony A Frame received an award of £44,136 from the Community Environmental Renewal Scheme, managed by Forward Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

Coldingham Village Hall (Borders television finalists) were also successful and have been awarded £78,661 to install theatre equipment and seating in their newly refurbished Village Hall.

The original refurbishment of the hall received £50,000 from the Community Environmental Renewal Scheme and £20,000 from the Viridor Credits Scheme also managed by Forward Scotland on behalf of Viridor.

The contest is into its 3rd year, and is a partnership between the BIG Lottery Fund and ITV. You can find more information on the contest by visiting the Big Lottery site here.
