2007/08 Grants Awarded by Viridor Credits |

Forward Scotland are pleased to anounce that over the 2007/08 year, Viridor Credits Scotland have awarded over £270,000 to 14 projects in East Lothian.
The following projects were funded in 2007/08:
1) Halellujah Project: Haddington West Parish Church of Scotland were awarded £30,000 to use towards the refurbishment of their church hall. This included the construction of a modern kitchen; disabled toilets and facilities; and the refurbishment of the seating, décor and central heating.
2) Fantastic Flight Project: The National Museums Scotland have been awarded £30,000 of funding to upgrade their National Museum of Flight building to improve amenities such as a new disabled entrance, the provision of disabled toilets and repairing the floor. The estimated finish for this is October 2008.
3) Fortunes of War Project: The National museums Scotland were also awarded £19,000 for the upgrade of a World War II RAF Nissan Hut at the National Museum of Flight which will open in 2009 as an exhibition about the history of East Fortune airfield site. This upgrade will make the building more environmentally friendly and fully accessible to all. This is also estimated to finish in October 2008.
4) Hallhill Disabled Access Project: The Dunbar Community Development Co. were granted £10,000 for the Hallhill Healthy Living Centre's facilities to be upgraded with disabled access.
5) The Scateraw Foundation: This charitable trust in Dunbar which exists to exhibit the works of Richard Demarco, an internationally renowed artist, were awarded £30,000 towards their project of creating an educational and artistic experience between the converted barn, where the works are stored, and the nearby John Muir footpath. It will include viewpoints, interpretation areas, woodland, meadows and stones along the way.
6) Morham Village Hall Project: Morham Village Community Hall were granted £21,268 to refurbish electrical systems, roof and the exterior of the building; the upgrade of the kitchen; replace toilets with new facilities; and provide full disabled access.
7) Whitsome Ark Project: The Berwickshire Community Councils Forum Environmental Group were awarded £30,000 for a new community building with a hall, meeting room, kitchen, cafe, post office and community shop.
8) Environmental Garden Project: East Linton Primary Eco Schools Committee were awarded £8,183 to convert an area around East Linton Primary School into an environmental garden. This garden will be used by the school and will also be open to community access.
9) Prestonkirk Graveyard Project: £5,000 was awarded to the Parish of Trapain to resurface the car park which was rough, untarred and prone to flooding, causing problems for visitors to the hall and the graveyard.
10) The Restoration of Macarthur's Store: Dunbar Harbour Trust were granted £30,000 for the restoration of a semi-derelict store used by fishermen to hold and maintain gear. This will include the provision of 10 fishermens workshops/stores; accommodation for Dunbar Harbour Trust; a meeting room; and improvements to the surface of the quayside for loading and unloading boats.
11) Homecoming Project: £17,479 was awarded to the Grants Braes Burns Club for this project. It includes the restoration of Robert Burns' mothers grave, the well where she pulled water from and part of the original cottage in which she lived with Burns' brother.
12) Our Lady of the Waves Restoration Project: Our Lady of the Waves RC Church, Dunbar was granted £6,000 to put towards the refurbishment of the interior including redecoration; new furniture and carpets; and the update of the public address system with the installment of a loop system for the hard of hearing. The appearance and the facilities were greatly improved by this restoration.
13) The Hollies Day Centre: This day centre for the elderly was granted £3,698 for the installment of a new boiler to improve the comfort of the visitors.
14) Longniddry Play Park Project: £30,000 was awarded to the Longniddry Park Community Group for the refurbishment of the park in order to benefit the children of the community. A number of structures before this were old and delapitated so had to be removed and replaced.
